Rise, Angie, Rise Musical Stage Play in Atlanta, GA

Rise, Angie Rise Stage Play in Atlanta, GA Logistics: Rise, Angie, Rise (musical stage play) Saturday, June 9, 2012 6:00 pm (Doors open at 5:15) College Park Auditorium Main Street College Park, GA
Synopsis In Rise “Angie” Rise, Angie is a single mother who is distrustful of BJ’s father and she’s unwilling to believe that his “conversion” to Islam in prison has changed him. The Roy she knew was incarcerated when BJ was a toddler, leaving her embittered, wayward; and now ready to live her life in the fast lane. The story centers around the accusation by BJ’s Trig teacher that BJ allegedly purchased his English research paper. BJ’s math teacher also insists he has attention deficits and Bipolar Personality Disorder and she agrees with the medical model of treatment. The story climaxes at a school conference where Angie and Roy Muhammad come face to face with the challenges their teenaged son faces. They must put their differences aside if they’re going to save BJ. Brother Roy turns out to be a superhero character when the audience may have assumed him a villain. In this satirical comedy, the audience will be awakened to some of the ills of the educational system, and they will see the importance of being engaged in the process of teaching our own children with the help of all stakeholders. I would rate it "PG-13" according to the standards set for by the Neilson Ratings program. The play is suitable for all ages and does contain a “Say No to Drugs and alcohol” message. Rise “Angie” Rise has been reviewed by the president of the Huntsville-Madison County Chapter of the Alabama A&M Alumni Association, Brother Starnes, who stated that “It’s as good as any of Tyler Perry’s plays” after he watched a sneak preview of it at their annual scholarship and theater dinner in November.
